Music in the Gardens’ Sing to Win is a contest organised by Music by the Gardens and The Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra to find the area’s best vocal talent. The winners will sing solo a particular song backed by a 60-piece orchestra in front of an audience of approx. 2,000 on Sunday 7th July 2019. The type of voices we are seeking will be NON-operatic and will contemporary in style and delivery
How to apply:
Applications to enter the competition are to be submitted by completing the online application form found on this page. The closing date for entries will be Midnight Wednesday 27th March 2019.
Anyone who resides within BBC Radio Sheffield’s catchment area aged 18 years and over is eligible to compete.
An audition to find the best 6 voices will be held on Saturday 30th March 2019 at 2pm finishing at 4pm at a central Sheffield location. The audition will be judged by a representative from the Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra and from the Music in the Gardens team. You will be judged on your delivery of one of two songs which will be performed by the eventual winners:
Somewhere Over the Rainbow and /or We Have All The Time In The World.
There will be a pianist provided for the auditions and you will be able to sing in a key suitable for your voice.
The final to select the 2 best singers will take place Saturday 27th April 2019 at 7pm a central Sheffield location. At the final, accompanied by a piano and small string ensemble, you’ll be asked to perform the audition song again and a song of your choosing (subject to availability and practicality).
The Judging Panel:
The adjudication will be made up of 4 judges from The Sheffield Philharmonic Orchestra, Music in the Gardens, BBC Radio Sheffield and a Talent Agent from a major booking agency.
The two winners should be available to attend rehearsals: Tuesdays 11th and 25th June and 2nd July 2019 7.30pm, Sunday 7th July 2019 at 2pm and the performance will be from 8pm on the same evening.
The two winners chosen to sing their selected song with the Orchestra will each receive 4 free tickets to the event for guests.
There is no cash prize alternative and no monitory value is implied. Applicants agree to be contacted by Music in the Gardens, The Sheffield Phiharmonic Orchestra and BBC Radio Sheffield only in relation to the competition. All personal data help to organise the event will be erased on 8th July 2019.
