Sheffield Area Kidney Research & Children's Heart Surgery
SAKA (Sheffield Area Kidney Association) exists to help renal patients and their families cope with all stages of kidney failure. This includes those diagnosed with any form of kidney disease, dialysis patients, those waiting for transplants and people who have received transplants. We also contribute funds towards research.
The charity is run by kidney patients and carers, who all understand what it is like to live with kidney problems. Anyone who receives treatment via the Sheffield Kidney Institute is able to approach SAKA for help. This can take the form of financial support when facing hard times, assistance in purchasing essential items, payments towards the cost of holiday dialysis, help with transport costs etc.
Sheffield team members attending the British and World Transplant Games also receive funding.
Friends of Newman School ( FONS ) is a charity committed to raising funds for Newman Special School pupils. FONS aims to provide funds to support extra curricular activities and resources which stand outside the remit of a normal school budget. FONS has supported groups of pupils to access social opportunities in the local and wider community, who may otherwise be socially isolated.
These experiences build resilience in our vulnerable pupils and aim to reduce the risk of mental health issues. Recently FONS has financially supported residential visits to Kingswood and Bendrigg Outdoor Centre and facilitated a large number of day visits and events. FONS has purchased several items of specialist equipment including a Sound Beam and a Kiln which have been used in extra curricular activities after school.
All the fantastic activities and resources continue to provide a large variety of additional opportunities for all our pupils to reach their full potential.
