Learn a bit about how we started and what we want to achieve

Music In The Gardens started life as an idea to put on a small live music concert in the Botanical Gardens to raise funds for local charities.

The event is now in its 6th year and is organised by the combined efforts of the Rotary Clubs of Sheffield. The event is designed to be a major occasion on the social calendar for the community and a significant fundraiser for various Charities. Each year we select main charities, one for each evening, and 50% of our total proceeds are shared equally between the four charities. Each charity is also responsible for organising a bucket collection during the interval to help boost its income. So please, bring lots of loose change – the folding type would be good! You will be making a major difference.

The remaining proceeds are then divided between a number of other charities nominated by the individual Rotary Clubs in Sheffield. Becauseof their help in hosting the event The Botanical Gardens Trust receives a substantial donation towards ongoing development of the Gardens.

In 2010 we raised a staggering £45,000 for local charities. This was double the amount raised in 2009. The 4 main charities that benefited in 2010 were, Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity, Shelterbox, Sheffield Kidney Research Foundation and Holidays for Disadvantaged Sheffield Children. In total, 17 local charities benefited from the Music In The Gardens 2010.

This year the 4 main charities are “Help for Heroes”, “Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity”, “Shelterbox” and the “Weston Park Hospital Cancer Charity”. We know that all the charities appreciate your support and we hope that you will be generous towards their interval bucket collections. You will be making a major difference.

Our overall charity target this year is £60,000 – so thank you for supporting Music In The Gardens. We hope that you will enjoy this and future Rotary events.
